This year, on two occasions, wind turbines generated more electricity than nuclear. The first was March 29 and the second was October 26. The chart below shows the second event where the green line (wind) matches that flat red line (nuclear). Each of these is only for an hour or two and normal generation is near the blue line (hydro) but this is an interesting event for renewable energy fans.
This is not anything against nuclear energy, it’s about the growth of wind energy which will reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Nuclear will contribute 21% of our electricity while wind will be at 9%. But when that wind comes sweeping down the plain, the green electricity flows.
