1/20/16 TILT (THINGS I LEARNED TODAY)

1) 10% of college grads think Judge Judy is on the Supreme Court. (via Newsy)
2) Stephen Colbert is one of 11 children.
3) via USA Today and Rock the Vote
80% of 18-34 year olds want a rapid transition to clean and renewable energy, and think that Climate Change should be first and foremost in our national priorities.
4) Late night comedians and Meme artists are rejoicing! Sarah Palin is BA-ACK! Comedy gold shall ensue!!
Palin was flown in Trump's private jet, from Alaska to Iowa, where she endorsed Donald Trump yesterday. She described Trump, among other things, as a man of "quiet generosity".
Then, the half-term Governor went on to squeal shrilly, "Are you ready for a Commander in Chief, who will let our warriors do their job and go kick Isis' ASS?" (Huge applause and cheers).
[One has to wonder where the decorum and pomposity among our political operatives has gotten to. Never have we seen such crass language, lack of gravitas and disrespect for the highest office in the land, as in recent years. I think it all started with "You lie!" at Obama's very first State of the Union Address.]
Oddly, Palin left her home to stump for Trump when, less than 24 hours earlier, Palin's 26 year old son, Track (where does she come up with these names??) was arrested for allegedly kicking and hitting his girlfriend, and pointing an A.R. 15 assault rifle at her.
I guess Palin felt no motherly duty to be at her son's side in his moment of shame. Or, conversely, maybe it's just a common occurrence for her. No need to pay it any mind. Someone should write a sitcom about this family.
5) via Center for Addictions (by way of Thom Hartmann)
87% of adult Medical Marijuana users gave up other drugs, alcohol and prescription medications in favor of therapeutic cannabis. In fact, adults under 40 were likely to give up all three substances, if they could access legal weed.
Researchers confirm that cannabis users were able to stop the use of prescription drugs for health problems like Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Gastrointestinal Issues, and Chronic Pain.
In the late 1800s, 93% of all tonics and medicines contained cannabis.
6) John Wayne's daughter endorsed Donald Trump yesterday, saying that if her daddy were alive, he'd endorse Trump, too. Wayne's real name was Marion Morrison, but he wanted a more "tough-guy" moniker, so he chose "John Wayne" instead. Wayne and Trump have similar mind sets. Both play tough guys (on TV), yet both avoided military service in real life.
7) via Democracy Now
Turns out Hillary's email server DID contain classified information at higher levels than she had previously claimed. Officials reviewing her information, found several documents that were "SAP" (Special Access Programs), which is a higher level of classification beyond "Top Secret" information.
8) Donald Trump LOVES The Bible. Speaking to Bible students at Liberty University yesterday, he assured the crowd that he was a fan of the good book, saying , "The Bible is the best. The Bible blows it away. There's nothing like the Bible."
He asked the crowd how many had read his SECOND favorite book, penned by Trump, himself, "The Art of the Deal". He said, "Clap if you've read my book. Who hasn't read my book? Everyone's read my book!" To which there were scattered applause. By the sound of it, perhaps 10-20 of the attendees had actually read his book.
I guess you don't need to learn how to make Wall Street-Style back room negotiations in order to tell your cow hands to clean up the slop in the barn, on your Iowa farm.
9) Quincy Jones (on Stephen Colbert) said, "The first time I touched a piano, I knew, with every cell in my body, that this was what I was going to do for the rest of my life."
Jones learned numerous instruments, but specifically mentioned that he studied trombone, in his high school's marching band, partly because they marched right next to the Majorettes.
10) Elephants could be extinct in the wild in just one or two decades. 100 elephants are killed daily for their tusks.
Ivory sales on Yahoo Japan are exploding, growing from around $2 million in 2010 to $7 million in 2014. Yahoo Japan is separate from the global firm Yahoo, but the global company is Yahoo Japan's second largest shareholder, and has a massive say on policy.
Yahoo’s CEO, Marissa Mayer, is under threat. Yahoo’s financial performance has been poor, some investors want her gone, and employees are demoralized -- over a third of the workforce left in the last year.
11) Bernie Sanders has jumped ahead with a 27 point lead over Hillary Clinton (60-33) in the key Primary State of New Hampshire, the next state to hold their Primary, after Iowa kicks its off.
Cable News pundits have got to drop this "neighboring state" B.S. already!  This is MORE than a "state next door" love affair - I mean, how many New Yorkers are crazy for Christie, just because he's from a “neighboring state”?  None.  These media trolls will do anything to keep from giving Bernie his due!
12) via Democracy Now
David Miranda (partner of Glenn Greenwald, who was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his work on reporting the revelations of NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden), won a battle in the British courts, after having been detained at Heathrow Airport in London for 9 hours in 2013, under British counter-terrorism laws, while transporting some of the Snowden documents.
Last year, the high court in London dismissed a challenge by Miranda, saying his actions met the law's definition of "Terrorism".
However, on Tuesday, the Appeals Court partially overturned that ruling.
Miranda tweeted, "Thrilled with the court ruling! My purpose was to show UK's terrorism law violates press freedoms. And journalism isn't 'terrorism.' We won!"

*NOTE* - Please understand that I do not claim to be a “journalist”. I am only passing on bits of information, which others have researched, that drift through my awareness, on any given day. I watch, read and listen to any number of different news and entertainment sources, and it’s more than anyone could possibly intake and retain in a day, so I created this little daily “cheat sheet” for myself, so that I could remember all these oddball facts. Then I decided to share these tidbits, and thus was born the Daily TILT. I do this for fun. I hope you enjoy it.
Message me to SUBSCRIBE to the Daily TILT ("THINGS I LEARNED TODAY")
**NOTE: I purposely do not include links or photos in the TILT. The idea is to not have one story be highlighted above all the others. And sometimes links can be stressful. I, myself, sometimes get conflicted when presented with too many choices, so I thought I'd save you the trouble of having to make any of those types of decisions for a few minutes, while you read the Photo and Link-Free TILT!
I encourage you to further research any stories that interest you, though. They are easy to Google.
***My Daily Sources are usually one of the following: Democracy Now, The Daily Kos, Thom Hartmann, care2, Mother Jones, David Pakman, Ring of Fire, Jim Hightower, Alternet, Bill Press, Wired UK, John Fugelsang, Lee Camp, The Huffington Post, The Daily Show, TYT Network, Truthout, DIGG, Think Progress, Politico, Salon, Friends of the Earth, Talk Media News, NRDC, Pirate Television, The Upworthiest, The Chase, Soul Pancake, The Petition Site, Bioneers, TechKnow, The Daily Beast, PPP, YouTube and occasionally, MSNBC.
As Thom Hartmann says, "Democracy is NOT a spectator sport. TAG, you're it!"
